Q: I am looking for a program that provides continuing education credits, plus additional marketable skills in my job. Can your training do this?
Answer…
All of our educational courses were designed with you in mind. We start
with two courses called “Introductory 101” and “102” which will provide a
total of thirteen credit hours. These courses are self-paced and available
online and through media packs. These address the theory, philosophy,
beginning practices and skills associated with being trained as one or all of
the following:
• Neurodevelopmental Screener
• Neurodevelopmental Foundations Consultant
• Neuro-Educational Learning Specialist
The additional skills you will gain may be incorporated into most
fields servicing the educational needs of children to adults. We have people
from educational, medical and social service backgrounds who find these
courses helpful. Tutors and tutoring services have found our training and
products valuable.
Q: I want to develop my own business and become my own boss. How can you
help me achieve that goal?
Answer…
A: LGS has been fortunate in that we have developed special tools for learning
that can be applied to many circumstances. Our vision is to create
learning products which improve overall functional abilities for absolutely
everyone. They equip people such as yourself with the ability to take the
products, and apply the principals and activities in your home, business,
day-care facilities, community programs, nursery schools, nursing homes,
churches, schools or wherever your creativity can service mankind. For
instance, “Developmental Foundations” is a program in which you can
become a specialist.

Q: If I choose a career path, what certifications are available and what is the time commitment? Answer…
A: The following certifications in the field of neurodevelopment through Little Giant Steps are available (prerequisites 101 & 102): • LGS Certified Neurodevelopmental Screener is a technician who is empowered to generate income with a private screening service and by offering seminars and selling the product – Developmental Foundations. Screener courses are a four month course load and a prerequisite for an Associate Certification. (prerequisites 101 & 102) • LGS Certified Neurodevelopmental Foundations Consultant is also a technician who may generate income by offering seminars and selling the Developmental Foundations. This practicum involves one year of personal program and working with a child on an LGS or DF program for a year (four month screener practicum can be included in the year). Skills courses can be taken concurrently with the Foundations Certification and are a prerequisite for an Associate Certification. (prerequisites 101, 102, 201, 202, 203) • Associate Certification – Application for Associate Certification may be accepted after the prerequisite courses are completed. Building blocks for this level of certification include the intro courses 101 & 102, screener courses 201, 202, 203, all skills courses offered by LGS and 301 & 302 courses (total of approximately 2 years). Participants do 95+ observations of evaluations and practice with 25 individuals. Suggested time frame is one year. • Professional Certification – A Neuro-Educational Specialist must administer 300+ Level I evaluations and learn program writing which takes approximately three years. • Master Certification -100+ observations of Level II evaluations and program writing for special needs is a part of this practicum course and involves about three years but can be accomplished concurrently with the Professional Certification.
Q: How would a person become a Certified Neuro-Educational Specialist? Answer…
A: Our training program is based on building blocks of competencies. Each level of training prepares you for the next. It is entirely up to you whether to pursue a career track. You will apply for each phase of training which is self-paced with certain criteria and some time limits that apply. Higher training levels require greater commitment as you follow the path of a certified professional. A college undergraduate degree is recommended, if you are considering a professional designation.
Q: What is the cost of my training? Answer…
A: Each of the skills courses involves an investment of a $125 course fee. Each media kit is sold separately and covers the fluctuating cost of books and audio-visual materials. A practicum, when offered, is also sold separately. Upon completion of the introductory 101 and 102 courses a full list of Professional Education Training course descriptions with enrollment fees will be sent to you. Once you have been introduced to neurodevelopment (101) and explored processing (102) you can choose from a list of ten skills courses. You may choose a trio of screener courses (201, 202 and 203) that introduce the entire Neurodevelopmental Profile and includes a practicum with Developmental Foundations and empowers individuals to do screenings and sell the DF program. You may also choose to begin a process of certification. The cost of your training depends on your goals and the courses you choose to enroll in.
Q: I have some questions about the certification track. When do the certification trainings take place – weekdays, evenings, or weekends? What should I expect as an out-of-state candidate? Answer…
A: The Introduction to Neurodevelopment Courses 101 & 102, all ten skills courses (one year), the trio of Developmental Screener Courses 201, 202 & 203 (four months) and the Developmental Foundations Certification 301 Application Courses are distance learning. The skills and screener courses can be taken concurrently with the Developmental Foundations Certification 302 Practicum Course. Your year of personal program in the Developmental Foundations Certification 302 Practicum Course will give you an opportunity to experience neurodevelopmental benefits first hand. As you work with a child/client on program you will get to watch improvements and learn about what parents experience through the process. The year of personal program will be a crucial time to improve your own brain organization and memory while searching a call to neurodevelopment. A year will give us time to become acquainted and to walk together with you through a journey of exploring a new career. The initial evaluation will involve a trip to Dallas. Three to four re-evaluations (one every four months) can be live or video evaluations with Skype and phone consultations. The Application to Associate Certification 401 course may involve some travel as you observe 25 evaluations by ICAN certified Master Level practitioners. See list (link). Skills courses can be taken concurrently with 401 but must be completed before starting 402. By the end of a year on program (302) and observing 25 evaluations (401) you will know for sure if God is leading you into further certifications in the field of neurodevelopment or in another direction for your career choice. Once you are approved to enter the Associate Certification 402 Practicum Course, there are five modules each requiring three to five days in McKinney, Texas plus the final step is a certification conference located at the Steps of Hope Training Center in McKinney, Texas each November. A total of six trips would be necessary in this phase of the training. A key component to Neuro-Educational Specialist Training is mentoring so you will need to plan to spend three to four days for observations each time you come. We see clients on weekdays at the Steps of Hope Training Center in McKinney and at the LGS office in Plano, Texas. You are welcome to stay at the Steps of Hope Training Center to cut motel costs. Several restaurants and grocery stores are within a couple of miles of the training center. The dates (one week each month) will be posted on the LGS website calendar.
Q: I am interested in certification but since I am out-of-state, how would I go about finding a child to work with? If the parents have never heard of neurodevelopment, how would I introduce this approach and get permission to work with their child? Answer…
A: Very often, families are very willing to pay a tutor to work with their children a few times each week. The LGS office can mail you 20 free “Hero” DVDs and brochures to distribute to people you know at church, school, etc. This would be a great way to share what you do. Maybe someone you know would be willing to have a personal evaluation or purchase a Developmental Foundations program: • An INP (Individual Neurodevelopmental Program) is the most effective way of knowing exactly what the child needs and creating a program to meet those needs—Cost is $625 for initial evaluation and $475 for re-evaluations every four months after that. A full program for someone without severe learning issues usually takes about two years to build the new neuro-networks and bring in optimum brain function. Reading and math scores often increase a year in each four month period! • For the first fifteen years of her practice, Jan Bedell saw amazing results with her clients using the Nuerodevelopmental Approach. She created Developmental Foundations as a basic foundational program to share with the public for half the price of an individualized evaluation. The training for the program activities is online and viewable for a month. (You can determine the start date.) Cost is $299 for a four month program that can continue to be done for 6 – 12 months with fantastic neuro and academic benefit for the whole family. • The child’s family will need to pay or someone else will need to fund their program. There is always a price tag attached to special services. • We do have a non-profit corporation set up to help. Steps of Hope, as a 501 c3, can receive tax deductible donations to help scholarship a child on program. 90% goes directly to the scholarship, 5% to administration and accounting and 5% to general funds such as the lending library and the myriad of other neurodevelopmental projects.
